William, Gandhi organised

William,

Gandhi organised mass non-violent civil disobedience to effect deperately needed social change.

Those organising the SOA protests are following Gandi's example.

They are also following Christ's own example (the Palm Sunday march into Jerusalem; driving the businessmen from the temple).

Christ calls us to take an active stand for Justice and Peace.

God Bless

The big mistake which we are

The big mistake which we are making in the peace movement is that we are spending too much energy on “protestor “Resistance. We should be going in the direction recommended by Colman McCarthy and Arun Gandhi.

Protest is a pro-active

Protest is a pro-active profession of principle. This is a commonly misunderstood aspect of the Reformation in particular. Martin Luther was a devout Augustinian Monk who finally got fed up with Roman trespasses against his people. Just because a movement resists the tide of a current regime doesn't negate its legitimacy. This is precisely how America was founded. Mahatma Ghandi pioneered the non-violent protest against Imperial co-optation. The new memorial for Martin Luther King in D.C. honors a peaceful protester resisting the injustice of a basic Constitutional promise unfulfilled.

What other alternative is there for relief when all of the established avenues of redress have been tried and found wanting ?
