The Bible as a book of wrestlings, not answers

Our local newspaper carries syndicated religion columnist David Waters. I believe he is one of those writers who helps you to think about something from a new perspective. However, in this week's column, Waters is touting the works of an Episcopalian writer, Verna Dozier.

Dozier seems like a lady worth knowing more about.

She challenged us also to question the Bible.

"The Bible is not God," she wrote.

"Because the Bible is a theological book, it is a book of wrestlings, not a book of answers. In each age the people have to struggle to hear the word of the Lord for their time, and sometimes their hearing is keener than at other times."
