Chernobyl-McCain-abortion-Obama

Chernobyl-I just revisited it via Google and other helplines. The US has been totally insulated from the disaster and I don't know why. An area half the size of South Carolina will not be habitable for 46 thousand years. THAT'S FORTY SIX THOUSAND YEARS. Thousands of young people born after the event are growing up in orphanages in Ukraine some without limbs and some not much more than vegetables. The government of Ukraine just refused to allow a nuclear storage site in the area even though it's obviously contaminated. Ghost towns are everywhere.[Listen to the song 'farewell to pritchat']
Do we want to build 150 nuclear plants all over the countryside when we cant even steer a barge of oil up the Mississippi without causing an environmental disaster? when we can't steer a tanker like the Valdes? God gives us the energy we need for free. We don't have to turn millionaires into billinaires by buying into their stupidity.
Ther's a statue of Prometius in Pritchat-Man calling down God's fire to earth.Get a box of Kleenex and visit the websites and see a real GHOST town.

I'd rather do something than argue about what we don't understand.

The utility companies

The utility companies already have their script planned to justify having their customers prepay for the construction of nuclear plants [if you don't approve of the plan energy costs will go up]and then pay for operation and then pay for the storage of the spent fuel. The seventh commandment be damned.

Excellent observation and

Excellent observation and question sevenup. "Do we want to build 150 nuclear plants all over the countryside when we can't even steer a barge of oil up the Mississippi without causing an environmental disaster?"

If nuclear reactors are dealt with the way the economy was dealt with, it spells disaster down the line. The cost seems very steep and there are too many dangers. It does seem a money making trap for corporations who can easily manipulate pricing like with oil.

You are right in that "God gives us the energy we need for free." Solar, wave and wind power are the way to go. While there will be initial start-up cost for production and assembly, once installed it will be cost effective, providing clean sources of energy with no toxic by-products. These new industries will create a lot of new jobs.

I completely agree that

I completely agree that nuclear is not the answer. It's very dangerous. Solar and wind are the way to go, but since no one can lay claim to the sun and the wind, there is not enough money to be made in a free market. Energy, I think, is one of those things, unlike banking, that really should be under the control of government in a democracy.

I recently heard that the

I recently heard that the technology exists to collect solar energy from a specialized satellite. Expensive yes, but I can only agree with you. Better-spent money than "staying in Iraq for the next hundred years."

...on the other hand, apparently one satellite can provide energy for millions of homes, so perhaps some capitalist will step in, in the face of our continuing and so-far increasing collective inability to come together even for our own good.
