No movie,No book,No church, No mention
She's the one that may have inspired Dorothy Day. She could be the patron saint of workers rights. She spoke up for workers and children in more cities and at more rallies than any other living or dead American. Few bishops know her name. Presidents called her dangerous. Because she was a woman who spoke out like a man she was marginalised. I know of no statue or memorial erected in her name,in Memphis,Chicago,Colorado,NewYork or Cork Ireland-these are all places that should remember her. She endured famine, fire, pestilence and jail. How can the media, the church, the movie industry and the public choose to forget such a little old lady. It would make a movie to inspire tha world. Mary Harris Jones [Mother Jones] 1837-1928?
If you look at the structure
If you look at the structure of the hierarchy of clergy, you will begin to notice a relative structure of the hierarchy of the laity! As Mother Church has assumed a more bidniz-like, corporate standard, the heirarchy of the laity has also! The Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, The Altar Society and all laity populated intradevedloped organizations have always been closely attached to, guided and (manipulated?) influenced by the clergy. In the corporate structure, as well as in nature, "abandonment is death" and to challenge the corporate line is risking abandonment! (abandonment..spelled ETERNAL DAMNATION!)
Thats HOW, the church abandoned the "working class". To find when, the church abandoned the working class we must work our way backward and determine the defining moment when the church began to see herself as God! When the corporate mission became the propagation and perpetuation of power and wealth as a tool, designed to propagate power and wealth! There must have been great revelry in Heaven, I'm sorry, The Vatican, when Ronald Regan sounded the death knell of the working class in this country.
Define the moment when "The Shephard" decided to become a CEO and convinced the "Flock" that it was "Gods will!" When in fact it was, in her eyes, 'cause this has nothing to do with Gods will, but the will of God Mother Church
Hey Ronnie Reagan, I'm black
Hey Ronnie Reagan,
I'm black and I'm pagan,
I'm gay an I'm left.and I'm free,
I'm a non-fundamentalist,environmentalist.Don't bother me.
Your so cool playing poker,
with death as the joker,
You've nerve but you don't assure us
with paranoid vistas of mad Sandanistas,
and the way you're defending Honduras.
We'll dig shelter holes, when we've bargained our souls,
as for Pershing and Cruise we shovel,
while the myth of our dreams turn to nightmares,
from the White House right back to the hovel.
You were wearing the green tin Ballyporeen
[the town of the little potato]
You dangled your carrot,
with your arm around Garrett
but you'll never get me to join NATO
As your dollars beckon,
I think we should reckon on the cost of accepting your gold
and join your alliance and build.
what's left when our freedom is sold ?
That was the analysis of Ronnie's visit to Ireland,as sung by Christy Moore.
Mr Moore tells the story of working men here and elsewhere and tells it in working man's language.
Our media filters out the anger and the non political correct language and that
is done here in the NCR as in all the media.
The hippies were filtered, labor was filtered and the church is filtered because the politically correct can not allow the anger to show.
James, the answer to your
James, the answer to your question is really simple:
--- Define the moment when "The Shephard" decided to become a CEO
--- and convinced the "Flock" that it was "Gods will!"
--->>> The day the Vatican Bank was formed.
--->>> The day Mussolini bought his position for $90M
--->>> The day the pope agreed to support Hitlers election for nazi gold
That was when the Vatican abandoned the laity. That was when the Vatican abandoned its integrity. That was when (IMHO) the RCC abandoned its position as the one true church.
How prophetic is it that in his speech to the French, the pope condemned greed and the pursuit of wealth, while he is the CEO of the Vatican Bank which has more wealth than most countries.
I would prefer to see more
I would prefer to see more done for workers than to see a statue erected.
And sevenup, I'm not criticizing your concern. Surely, it's good to make people aware of those who have gone before us and who have done great things--it gives us hope and energy.
But I'm not sure a statue would do that in any more significant way than our desire to let our lives speak to affirm the values of true sollidarity with workers.

Caterine,You are right but a
Caterine,You are right but a statue,or book or movie is really a reflection of society's value. That's what I am talking about, people have no time for the people who work compared with the people who own. Mbas from Wharton or wherever else are only interested in the bottomn line. When was the las time a Ceo was written about in a complimentary way after losing money?
When did the American church
When did the American church leave the working class and link up with the successful people? Was it the fault of the working class who gave themselves to corrupt management? Or was it the fault of the church who abandoned the working class? Does the working class still exist? I'm raising questions here.
Well, she does have three
Well, she does have three decades of a magazine cover to remember her, but I do agree that her life would make a great movie (there really has never been one?). Your post is especially timely, sevenup, given the grossness of the republican party's nominee for VP thinking her little mayorship in a small town in Alaska easily (and smugly!)trumps the work of community organization, in Chicago, of all places. That the professional world of those who actually advocate for the poor and marginalized should have to listen to such tripe is, well, it's American Republican politics these days, isn't it? I'm happy to at least give my little salute to Mother Jones this a.m. Thanks for the reminder!
No comment either. The
No comment either. The church just doesn't get it. Leo XIII laid out some thoughts about the rights of workers and that was the last we heard about that. They just don't get it. Yet they ask why the laborers don't come to the feast.
Mother Mary Harris Jones was
Mother Mary Harris Jones was born May 1, 1830 and died on November 30, 1930.
There is a publication named for her called Mother Jones. If you google her name there are wonderful biographies of her life. She was one hell of a woman who deeply cared about the working poor and organized for them well into her 80's. Read her fascinating story via google search.
Thanks sevenup. She is surely one of the greatest women ever to grace this land. Are you sure there is no movie yet about her?
I believe there is a statue
I believe there is a statue of Dorothy Day at a church called St. Mary's in Colt's Neck, New Jersey.

When the church stood with
When the church stood with Franco,Mussolini and Hitler in the Spanish civil war was the time that the church deep sixed all her talking points for the labor and started the decline in interest in the average person.
