DETENTION MINISTRY AND RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
HI, EVERYBODY!
THE PURPOSE OF SETTING UP FORUM TOPIC IS TO BRING TOGETHER AND SHARE OUR EXPERIENCES AS WE HAVE SHARED TIME IN JAIL, IN PRISON OR EVEN JUVENILE HALL. WHEREEVER YOU MAY BE, WHAT HAVE YOU TO SAY ABOUT WORKING WORKING WITH PEOPLE WHE ARE INCARCERATED OR HAVE BEEN INCARCERATED.
IT HAS ALSO BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT WHEN WE GET TOGETHER AND TALK ABOUT THIS THINGS AS PEOPLE OF FAITH, THERE IS SUCH A WIDE SPECTRUM OF CIRCUMSTANCES. MAYBE WE CAN PRAY FOR EACH OTHER, MAYBE WE CAN HELP EACH OTHER.
GOD LOVES US!

It needs to be discussed... Last week I happened to be close to another church at 9 in the morning. I went to Mass in this church on a Friday morning and got an unwanted sermon for 15 mins about the ten commandments. Most people who go to daily mass know quite a bit about the ten commandments and should not have to listen to a young foreign priest practise his English. I walked out I was so mad. What has this got to do with the topic? So much time is spent 'preaching to the choir' The captive is left to fend for himself and no one seems to help him in his rehabilitation or re-settlement.

A group from our church has gone for a service of Word and Communion each Sunday for 20+ years to the local County Jail. Over the 15 years I have been a part, these men and women have become my Church community. We pray together for a slot to open in drug rehab, for kindness from the guards, for a safe delivery of a baby on the way and more. We rejoice when someone reunites with loved ones. We weep when a loved one dies and the inmate cannot go to the funeral. In my "parish" church there are discussions about bowing or not, gender balance for eucharistic ministers, and what shall we name the new parish when six local churches are combined. I know many good people there but it is God and Me worship not a communal celebration.
