Dominican Sr. Luma Khudher, now living and studying in Chicago, is a 31-year-old Iraqi woman religious who has watched her country descend into the pits of irrational war. Her pain represents the pain of millions of Iraqis who eek out their lives in fear and uncertainty. She grew up in a small town near Mosel, Iraq and has family there. She also has a sister in Baghdad with whom she stays in close contact. Recently she talked to Tom Fox about the struggle to survive in Iraq and about the difficulties of many Americans to understand the Iraqi people and their cultures.

Episode 1: Life in Iraq today (20 min.)
"There was a time not so long ago when Iraqis, be they Christian or Muslim, lived in peace and harmony. No longer. There is deep animosity. ... Just last week a 35-year-old priest, three of his deacons, and a wife of one of the deacons, were ordered out of their car while driving home after Mass. They were shot dead. ... No one knows who was responsible."
Episode 2: Americans fail to understand culture (14 min.)
"It seems Americans don't understand another culture. Iraq is nothing like America or Europe ... The soilders burst into homes without waiting for the women to dress properly ... The Iraqis live in terror of the car bombs and the foreign soldiers. They don't fear a civil war. This is a civil war. ... People feel it is time for the foreigners to leave the country."

Sr. Luma's, interview was very moving and I pray along with her that no one needs to experience war as she has and her family has for the past 16 years, especially since 2003.
