Vatican suggestion box is up again

I believe that there are hundreds of suggestions that can come from the minds of the readers here so here are a few more to add to the original list starting with number 7.
7] That the church distance itself a little from the violence in the bible. Why would I or anyone want to associate oneself with the slaughter of men, women children and beasts in the old testament? It was an historical fact but it was before Christ
8]That the church would really emphasise peace in it's every activity.
9]That the church encourage the use of the Rosary beads for other prayers. The rosary could be an aid to prayer as well as prayer in itself. A small step was made with the luminous mysteries.
10]when an encyclical is published it should come with an abbreviated version and a little background. It should be read at Mass in lieu of the old testament reading.
11] Priests who wish to marry should be encouraged to join the Eastern Rite church if acceptable
12] A prayer for world peace composed with the help of the Archbishop of Canterbury or the Patriarch of Constantinople should be said daily or weekly in churches.
13] The Church has Astronomers on the payroll. Why do we not have economists? The church needs to be expert in many fields.
14] Allow and encourage the flow of famous church art throughout the world [insured ofcourse] There is enough art in Italy and Europe to inspire Catholics and others in a beautiful way.
15] Set up an online contribution center so anyone could make an occasional donation directly to causes that are worthwhile .
16] Establish prayers [public or private]that invoke blessings on the unborn, their mothers and the sanctity of life.
Any organisation that is as in-bred as the church needs suggestions from outside Where are your's?

# 49 : encourage SPIRITUAL

# 49 : encourage SPIRITUAL BIOGRAPHY and make it an integral part of Sunday liturgy. In so doing, emphasize experiences relating to the grace of seeking and serving Christ in all persons and open up space for Holy Doubt.

The Rev. Dr. E. McCoy

"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen." (Luke 24:5)

When I read, in Tillich I

When I read, in Tillich I think, that faith and doubt were a single, polar reality ... WHEW! what a burden lifted from my teen angst-burdened shoulders. And when I read that faith is also experienced, in part, as a concern for ultimates/ultimate concern, I rejoiced in thinking I had a LOT of faith, even if my propositional assent didn't nearly match my relational consent.

See http://www.womenpriests.org/teaching/orsy3_2.asp

where they discuss such distinctions as between obsequium religiosum (one with the searching church, working for clarification) and obsequium fidei (one with the believing church holding firm to a doctrine), the former binding to respect, the latter to submission. And, of course, not the same distinction but also useful, essentials versus accidentals. What I've viewed as essential to my Catholic identity is ... well, enough already :-)

Respectfully,
jb

Dr McCoy: Holy Doubt. I

Dr McCoy:

Holy Doubt. I love the phrase. It should be one of the sacraments. It's one of the ways that faith grows. Thank you.

Hardly # 49 [a lot closer to

Hardly # 49 [a lot closer to the top] but there are 100 more. There needs to be a book fair at every church.Something that would give the average person an opportunity to study a particular aspect of their spiritual lives and also an opportunity to donate a book for the benefit of others [after reading it of course]

I like the idea about traveling Church art. I have been to some modern Catholic Churches and what they consider art, leaves much to be desired. It would be kind of neat to show up for Mass one Sunday and have the San Damino Cross from Asissi in the backdrop instead of the usual crucifix.

I am told that when the Pieta was shown at the Vatican exhibit at the world's fair in 1964 that over a million people saw it. Was there another world's fair and did the Vatican participate?
